The Macon County School System is pleased to announce the appointment of three new district administrators, approved by the Macon County Board of Education during a called board meeting held on May 26, 2026, at 6:00 PM.

Mr. HortonMr. Michael Horton has been named Principal of Macon County Middle and High School. Mr. Horton brings nearly two decades of educational leadership experience and most recently served as Principal of Heritage Elementary School in Bibb County. Prior to that role, he served seven years as Principal of Westside High School, where he led significant gains in graduation rates, improved school climate, and earned national recognition for instructional technology integration.

Mr. DeasMr. Timothy Deas has been named Principal of Macon County Elementary School. With more than 25 years in education, Mr. Deas has served in multiple leadership roles throughout Middle Georgia, including his current position as Assistant Principal at Vineville Academy of the Arts in Macon. His experience includes instructional leadership, school operations, student achievement initiatives, and community engagement.

O’Gorman MaurerMrs. Michelle O’Gorman Maurer has been named Executive Director of Student Services for the Macon County School System. Mrs. Maurer currently serves as Director of Special Education for the Baldwin County School District and has extensive experience in special education leadership, compliance, instructional support, and program development. Throughout her career, she has led initiatives focused on improving services and outcomes for students with disabilities.
