Good afternoon, Macon County families! We are thankful to share that this week brings much warmer temperatures compared to last week’s unusually cold weather, when temperatures dropped into the teens. While mornings will still be cold, conditions are improving, and we ask parents and guardians to continue sending students to school dressed appropriately for winter weather. Pull out those warm coats, hats, and gloves to help keep our children safe and comfortable as they travel to and from school.
With the return to more typical winter temperatures, the Macon County School System will resume our normal school bus routes. During last week’s extreme cold, we attempted temporary door-to-door pickups; however, those efforts were not completely successful in many areas. Limited access in apartment complexes and neighborhoods, parked vehicles, narrow or one-way streets, and private property concerns created safety and liability issues for our drivers.
Student safety remains our highest priority. We appreciate your patience and understanding and will continue exploring ways to improve transportation services in the future. Thank you for your continued partnership and support.
